Discovery workshop

To mark International Women's Rights Day and the equality service mission of the Hauts-de-Seine department, JAD is offering an embroidery workshop with Anaïs Beaulieu, a visual artist featured in the exhibition Tisser l'avenir, Habiller le corps (Weaving the Future, Dressing the Body) from January 17 to April 21, 2024.

Because embroidery is not just an art practiced by women, Anaïs Beaulieu wants to dust it off by offering participative, intergenerational workshop formats:

"I thwart this know-how. I confront technique, materials and subjects to reveal images on materials that are sometimes unusual in traditional embroidery. A dialogue then emerges between what is represented and the support object. Embroidery gives these objects a new artistic dimension by diverting them from their original use. Through this gesture, I reinterrogate their value, the way they were made and the time it took to make them. I offer them a new history.

About Anaïs Beaulieu

After studying at the École Nationale Supérieure d'Art de Limoges, Anaïs Beaulieu Anaïs worked as a bookbinder. Today, she is an artist who uses embroidery to work in the fields of art, illustration, textile design and even street art. She thwarts embroidery by deploying it on materials uncommon to traditional embroidery. Diverted from their initial uses, these objects take on a new artistic dimension, and also extricate embroidery from its usual archetypes. Her travels, particularly in Africa, have strengthened her interest in crafts and folk art, but above all in the exchanges they can create.
