Baptiste Meyniel, Designer and visual artist

In 2017, Baptiste Meyniel graduated from ENSCI - Les Ateliers in industrial creation for his project En mouvement, en flux, en variation. This project lays the foundations of a practice anchored on the one hand in an understanding of what matter draws, and on the other of drawing, as a graphic act that opens up to the object, to its materialization. This way of working is a necessity: working with one's hands, in a close relationship with gesture and movement, to lead to the emergence of forms and allow potential uses to emerge.

This practice, which unfolds within the studio, leads him to respond to the international call for projects launched by CIRVA (Centre International de Recherche sur le Verre et les Arts Plastiques), of which he is the winner in 2019. He then embarked on a two-year residency in Marseille, to develop his approach to the object around a particular material: glass. In 2021, Baptiste was selected to take part in the Académie des Savoir-faire de la Fondation Hermès on glass and crystal. In 2022, he joins the JAD and settles in one of its workshops.

Firmly positioning himself as a builder of things that have uses rather than as a designer of products that meet needs, the objects resulting from his approach are nevertheless interpreted to adapt to different contexts. Certain assembly methods lead him to enter into dialogue with lighting manufacturers. Two of the lamps designed for his diploma were selected by the Mobilier National to be developed within the ARC (Atelier de Recherche et Création). Some of his designs are transformed into carpets or silk squares to meet the expectations of brands (Marlo&Isaure, Déjà Vù). Other research has led to collaborations with galleries (A1043, Murs Blancs). Her work has been exhibited at Fotokino (Marseille), Frac Champagne Ardenne (Reims), Chapelle des Calvairiennes (Mayenne) and Frac Picardie (Amiens).
