Marta Bakowski, Designer and colorist

Based at JAD since October 2022, Marta Bakowski is an industrial designer and colorist. A graduate of Saint Martin's School and then the Royal College of Arts in London, she left to join the creative freshness of Berlin, where she assisted Dutch designer Hella Jongerius for two years. Back in Paris, she joined Les Ateliers de Paris and in 2014 founded her own studio, where she cultivates a hybrid production that breaks away from the traditional rules of design. Specializing in working with color and materials, fascinated by folk and popular arts, she imagines graphic and expressive objects halfway between industrial and artisanal production, guided most often by handwork and dialogue with artisans.

Since 2015, she has collaborated on publishing projects with La Chance, Roche Bobois, Ligne Roset, Maison Matisse, and Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche, and takes part in international projects that promote local cultures and Savoir-Faire. These include projects such as Design For Peace (Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso), International Design Expeditions under the direction of Mathilde Brétillot (Puglia, Italy), and more recently the ADIR residency in collaboration with Cush Cush Gallery (Bali, Indonesia). Since 2021, she has also been teaching design at ESAD TALM in Le Mans.
