Exhibition - Weaving the future, Dressing the body

In recent decades, the art of creating garments has transcended mere utilitarian function to become a mode of artistic expression in its own right. The diversity of materials and techniques available to creators opens up infinite design possibilities. Artists, craftsmen, designers and brands bring to life unique pieces that take a stand against the textile industry and its impact on the environment. 

Through Tisser l'Avenir, Habiller le corps, exhibition curator Pascal Gautrand, fashion design expert and founder of Made In Town and Collectif Tricolor, invites us to explore the wealth of materials, actors and trades involved in contemporary sustainable textile creation. The exhibition offers an essential gateway to understanding this world behind the scenes, and focuses on three themes: sobriety, reuse and a return to naturalness.

A veritable ode to exceptional savoir-faire, we discover the work of Valérie Mréjen, theater costume designer and visual artist Geneviève Sevin-Doerin, whose creations have rarely been exhibited in France, Marie-Ange Guilleminot's Chapeau-vie , in its versions from 1994 to 2015, Stéphanie Coudert's asymmetrical dresses and Jeanne Vicérial's knitting loom . These creations demonstrate how several generations of women are expressing their sensibility and returning to a minimum of sobriety. 

The notion of reuse is embodied by pieces from Aalto/Recoded, the pioneering upcycling brand Andrea Crews, as well as creations in rewoven denim by Fondation Bettencourt Schueller prize-winner Aurélia Leblanc and artist-broder Anaïs Beaulieu. Finally, with the support of brands Marelha and Maison Izard, designer Aurore Thibout and the Depestele Group, the focus is on a return to the essence of textile creation, harmony with nature and sustainability. 

Samples, garments and other creations made from natural materials will punctuate this final section, testifying to the emerging links between ancestral and ingenious practices.

Our mediator guides you to decipher the works and introduce you to the creators and their know-how. This time is preceded by a convivial coffee, a unique opportunity to enjoy this architectural ensemble and its view over the greenhouses of the Domaine National de Saint-Cloud. 

Mediation points will be offered free of charge as part of JEMA on Saturday 06 and Sunday 07 April 2024 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

Conferences and round tables 

In conjunction with the exhibition, the Rencontres du JAD will feature discussions with key players in the sustainable textile sector.

Workshops and courses 

Throughout the exhibition, workshops and hands-on courses in upcycling, embroidery and textile sculpture are on offer, offering a unique opportunity to experiment with making.
