CALL FOR CANDIDATES: L' Atelier d'Alexandre Echasseriau

For its third exhibition, JAD invites designer Alexandre Echasseriau and invites students in the arts, crafts and design to apply for a collaborative workshop: "Un été au poil: quinze jours pour dompter la fibre".

THE PROJECT

As part of its upcoming summer exhibition, "L'Été au Jardin", JAD is offering 16 art and craft students the chance to discover the work and creative process of Alexandre Echasseriau, and to experiment with the flocking technique and its many derivatives through a 10-day collaborative workshop.

This JAD Summer Workshop will be led by industrial designer Alexandre Echasseriau. A graduate of the École Boulle and ENSCI - Les Ateliers, Alexandre is a designer and maker. Trained in industrial design, he works as much on the creation of his tools as on what they enable to be produced, intervening in ecosystems on varying scales, with great agility. Self-employed since 2013, he set up Crafter Studio in 2016 and supports economic players in innovative projects, crossing perspectives and drawing on the fields of art, science and traditional know-how. From concept to prototype, he develops an experimental and flexible approach to his craft, as close as possible to project contexts.

Fiber in all its forms

Wool, flax, pineapple fiber, synthetic hair, hair, weeds, coconut fiber, shredded paper, spinning mill waste, etc... fiber is everywhere and has infinite properties. Already well exploited by the textile industry, this workshop offers an approach far removed from the textile/industrial approach. It's an opportunity to explore new ways of experimenting with these materials.

The idea of the workshop is to explore various artisanal or semi-industrial techniques for taming hair, with the aim of producing an object, a structure, a graphic design, etc. From miniature to structural scale, sampling will play a central role in the two-week workshop, and will be subject to a few constraints set by Alexandre.

As the workshop progresses, the students' tests, essays and productions will be exhibited alongside Alexandre's exhibition, making the workshop and exhibition evolve in step with their productions.

TWO-WEEK PROGRAM

> J1 and J2: State of the art

> D3 and D4: Meetings with craftsmen and designers

> J5: Appropriation of a technique

> D6 to D9: Drawing / sample production

> J10: Final rendering
